Last Sunday Josh and I met some of his family in Alameda to go to the USS Hornet Museum. Josh and I arrived on time even though we had a little problem with unclear street signs. Gregg, Evelyn, and Andrew had to sit through Fleet Week traffic. I worked on homework while we waited, and Josh helped me. Once they got there we headed to the ship to discover the Corvette Club was also visiting the museum. We got to see all their beautiful cars in all different colors and years. The group was concentrated on the deck when we got in the museum with their cute little jackets announcing their affiliation with the club.
The museum’s entrance opens up to the huge hanger. Along one side of the ship historic aircraft line the floor. The museum displayed aircraft fighters, rescue helicopters, helicopter fighters, space craft, and a decontamination trailer. The fighter aircraft looked sleek, fast, and some were beaten up. There was also a gift shop with models, patches, and clothes. I got a stocking stuffer and a patch for my luggage. Josh found a penny machine, and got both pennies they offered.
The ship was like a maze with strategically placed areas with displays. Some of the exhibits were about certain regiments, Japanese American soldiers, the California Firefighting Aircraft, or just information about how a particular area was used. We went on a tour of the cockpit area where we found out about how the ship is driven, duties of the captain, and how long the crew has to get to their battle stations (3 minutes).
On the deck there were more fighter aircraft. The Corvette club even got to park three of their cars in formation with one of the aircraft. We spent a good amount on the deck because it was a beautiful day, and the Blue Angels were flying above San Francisco that Afternoon. We could see them in the distance making loops, twirling, and flying over the crowd. Evelyn got an awesome picture of them over the city.
We ha a good time, but had to go afterwards so I could o homework an Josh could work on his web stuff. The rest of the gang went to Jack London Square to have dinner. Josh and I missed out to be responsible, and had to have Boston Market.
